HiFiMAN Susvara

The reviewer considers the HiFiMAN Susvara to be an exceptional, almost otherworldly headphone that redefines what planar magnetic sound can do, but notes it demands extreme amplification and comes with a poor stock cable. He finds the sound presentation unlike any other headphone, with a unique ability to make music feel both intimate and expansive, though he admits it's hard to describe and requires very specific setup to shine.

The reviewer finds the HiFiMAN Susvara to be an outstanding flagship planar headphone with exceptional detail retrieval, speed, dynamics, and precise imaging, though it requires a very powerful amplifier. The tonality is mostly neutral with a slight brightness and occasional sibilance on poorly mastered tracks, but overall it is considered one of the best headphones they have reviewed.

The reviewer finds the HiFiMAN Susvara to be a technically impressive and highly resolving headphone that excels with powerful amplification, offering a lively and detailed sound with a deep soundstage. However, they note that the fit and finish lacks the final flagship polish, the headphones are extremely power-hungry, and they require a significant burn-in period to eliminate crackling. Overall, the Susvara is seen as a strong contender that challenges the Focal Utopia, but its demanding nature and high price are notable considerations.

He concludes it is one of the best headphones available, though the high price and power requirements are significant considerations.
