Privacy policy
The short version: HearWiki has no accounts, no advertising trackers, no third-party scripts and no cookie banner - because it sets no cookies that would legally require one. This page lists everything the site stores or processes, in full.
What is stored in your browser
| Name | Type | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| edb_cc / edb_region | Cookie | Remembers which country you are browsing from (set at the network edge from your IP's country code) so prices show in your regional currency. Contains a two-letter country code and nothing else. |
| Compare tray | localStorage | The shortlist of products you add to the compare tray. Stays on your device; never sent to us. |
| Theme | localStorage | Your dark/light mode preference. Stays on your device. |
All three are functional: they exist to make a feature you use work, not to identify or follow you. Under the ePrivacy rules this category does not require consent, which is why there is no banner.
Analytics
We use a self-hosted instance of Umami, an open-source, cookieless analytics tool, to count page views, see which features get used and build aggregate click heatmaps from a 15% sample. Heatmaps use strict masking for page text and inputs, session replay is disabled, and heatmap data is deleted after 30 days. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Visitors are counted with a salted hash that resets daily, so we cannot recognise you across days, sessions or other websites. The data never leaves our own server and is not shared with, or sold to, anyone.
Server logs
Like practically every website, our servers and the Cloudflare network in front of them keep standard technical logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent) for security and abuse prevention. They are kept briefly, used for nothing else, and are the legal-interest kind of processing GDPR Article 6(1)(f) covers.
Outbound retailer links
Product pages link out to retailers through affiliate links - if you buy after clicking one, the retailer pays us a commission at no cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, HearWiki earns from qualifying purchases. What a retailer's site stores once you are there is governed by their privacy policy, not ours; we pass along no personal data with the click. Affiliate revenue never influences scores or rankings - the About page explains how those are computed.
Your rights & contact
Since we hold no account data and analytics is anonymous, there is usually nothing for us to look up, correct or delete about you - but the GDPR rights of access, rectification, erasure and complaint to a supervisory authority apply to everything described here. For any privacy question, image credit request or takedown, write to [email protected] - requests are honoured without argument or delay.
If this page changes in a way that matters (new storage, new processing), the change will be described here, not buried.
