Audio-Technica R30x

The reviewer, a professional mastering engineer, finds the Audio-Technica ATH-R30x to be surprisingly capable for its $109 price, offering a balanced and enjoyable sound despite a hyped treble and forward low mids. They consider it a great budget option for mixing and mastering, though not ideal for professional mastering due to some frequency response quirks and a plasticky build.

The reviewer finds the Audio-Technica ATH-R30x to be an excellent value in the budget open-back headphone market, offering a lightweight and comfortable design with a warm, energetic sound signature. While noting some compromises like a non-detachable cable and shallow ear pads, he concludes that these are acceptable trade-offs for the price, making it a strong recommendation for those seeking an affordable entry into open-back listening.

The reviewer finds the Audio-Technica R30x to be a solid, budget-friendly open-back studio headphone that offers good comfort and a balanced, slightly bright sound. While it has notable weaknesses in bass extension and resolution, especially at lower volumes, it performs well when driven louder and represents a good value at $100. The reviewer concludes it's a 'pretty good' purchase rather than an exceptional one.
