A Technical Marvel: Yamaha YH5000SE Review

  4637 AufrufeSept. 2023

The reviewer considers the Yamaha YH5000SE a world-class flagship headphone with outstanding imaging, a sensational soundstage, top-tier detail, and deep, impactful bass. However, they note a slight bass bloom, an uneven midrange that can cause a 'honk' on certain tracks, and a build that doesn't feel as premium as the price suggests. They recommend pairing it with tube amplification to smooth out some of these issues.

The reviewer unboxes the Dan Clark Audio Ether CX closed-back planar headphones, noting their solid build with carbon fiber cups and comfortable fit, though the ear cups are shallow. He appreciates the sound signature from a prior audition and the included accessories, but finds the yokes and headband somewhat cheap-feeling. Overall, he seems positive about the purchase, especially given the sale price.

The reviewer unboxes and tests the STAX SR-009S electrostatic headphones paired with a Blue Hawaii amplifier, praising the exceptional clarity and detail of the sound but criticizing the cheap plastic build quality and uncomfortable ear pads, especially given the high price. Overall, the sonic performance is impressive, but the physical construction and ergonomics are disappointing for a flagship product.
